 7TH ECONOMIC CENSUS LAUNCHED IN NEW DELHI

New Delhi, December 13, 2019: CSC e-Governance Services India Limited in collaboration with Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India launched 7th Economic Census for Delhi using CSC network.

Shri A.K. Sadhu, Director General (SS), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) appreciated the efforts of the enterprising VLEs in undertaking various initiatives of the government. He said, “This time we are utilizing the vast network of VLEs in carrying out the Census. We are also leveraging technology and using a mobile application to do data collection, instead of paper and pen. The main challenge is to collect quality data from respondents. In this process, VLEs should have to convince people on the importance of this process. Delhi has different problems and challenges in comparison to other areas, so, we have to be prepare for that. We are confident that CSCs would help us gather timely data and create a National Asset which can be used for various policy level interventions.”


Smt G.Laxmi, ADG-ESD, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) said, “VLEs are the key people in this whole process. Census in Delhi has been launched in later stage, because we wanted to gather some experiences.”

The workshop was attended by CSC Delhi representatives, Department of Statistics and Program Implementation officials, and other representatives.

Shri Siddhartha Kundu, ADG, MoSPI presented brief overview & implementation strategy of the 7th Economic Census. He said, “Economic Census is an opportunity for transformation to produce good quality Statistics for policy making in the quickest possible time. We collaborate with key stakeholders and leverage the power of Information Technology.”


While welcoming the participants, Shri Nepal Chandra Sen-Head of Operations-CSC SPV said, “For the first time, Census work has been interested to CSC. Mobile app is being used in the process. MoSPI has bestowed trust on us in this work. SO, we should rise up to the challenge and meet the expectations. The Economic Census has already been launched in 20 states and 5 UTs and today, we are launching it in Delhi. CSC is a movement for enabling and empowerment of communities. The work done by our VLEs is phenomenal. Through Economic Census, we are going to build a panel of Professional enumerators.”
